Arapaho Drum – Lived History, the Wind River Virtual Museum

– Our drum, that’s the
heartbeat of the Arapaho tribe. We call it nirihir,
the thunder bird. It represents the thunder and the drumsticks
are their lightening. Our old people used to
sing songs, make songs, for the families and if
some person was going to war they’d make songs. – The drum was very important. It used to be considered sacred and it still is sacred.
