WATER DIDN’T REACH THE HOUSES THE CAUSE HAS NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED. THE SKIES ARE SUNNY AND BLUE. QUITE THE DIFFERENCE THERE TODAY COMPARED TO A WEEK AGO. HARVEY BEGAN TO DUMP SOME 30″ OF RAIN THERE. SO MANY FAMILIES IMPACTED. OUR KEN, HE IS LIVE IN ONE SPRING NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE THE WATER IS FINALLY GONE, BUT THE CLEANUP EFFORTS OFFERS SOME SOBERING REMINDERS OF HOW BAD IT REALLY IS. Reporter: IT’S BEEN A WEEK NOW. 7 DAYS. THIS IS ABOUT THE TIME FOLLOWING SOME SORT OF A CATASTROPHE. WHEN YOU HEAR PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THE ROAD TO RECOVERY. I WANT TO SHOW YOU WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. — IT STARTS HERE. IT’S HEART BREAKING TO SEE ALL OF THESE BELONGINGS. THIS IS WHAT WERE THE INSIDE OF HOMES THAT HAVE BEEN ABSOLUTELY GUTTED. IT’S HARD TO LOOK AT. IT DOESN’T FEEL GOOD. AT LEAST IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD I’M IN, NORTH HILLS ESTATE, THE WORK TO GET THESE FOLKS BACK ON THEIR FEET IS BEING MADE EASIER BY GOODWILL THAT CONTINUES TO POUR IN. 7 DAYS SINCE HARVEY BEGAN TO DROP HISTORIC DOWNPOURS INTO THE NEIGHBORHOOD, MANY OF THE FOLKS, IT WAS THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO COME BACK AND SEE WHAT IS LEFT OF THE HOMES. IN MANY CASES, THE REALITY IS, THERE’S NOT MUCH LEFT. ALMOST EVERY HOUSE SUFFERED DAMAGE. MOST OF IT IS EXTENSIVE. THE SCENE FROM THE STREET WAS THIS, OVER AND OVER AGAIN, PILES OF DAMAGED BELONGINGS THEY’RE MADE UP OF FIRST RESPONDERS THEY’VE BEEN HERE FOR THE PAST COUPLE DAYS HELPING TO GUT THE HOMES. AND THEY’RE DOING A PRETTY GOOD JOB OF IT THE HOMES AGAIN HAVE BEEN RUINED. ALL OF THE STUFF INSIDE HAS BEEN RUINED THEY BROUGHT IN MORE THAN A HUNDRED VOLUNTEERS TO HELP MANAGE THIS UNBELIEVABLE TASK OF THE GETTING BACK ON THEIR FEED. WE TRY TO PLANT THE SEEDS OF HOPE WE START TO HELP ONE FAMILY AND SPREAD OUT, NEIGHBOR HELPING NEIGHBOR. WHAT YOU FIND IS, AS YOU START TO HELP ONE HOME, AND PEOPLE SEE THAT HELP HAS ARRIVED, THAT SPARK COMES BACK. I’M OVERWHELMED.
