Durham superintendent apologizes after students sent to school during tornado warnings

DURHAM SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT AND BOARD MEMBERS ARE APOLOGIZING FOR OPENING SCHOOLS MONDAY. WE GOT IT WRONG. WE HEAR YOU AND WE’RE GOING TO CHANGE WHAT WE’RE DOING GOING FORWARD. THERE WAS FLOOR FLOODING AND TORNADO WARNINGS THAT MORNING. THE SCHOOL’S CHIEF ON OPERATING OFFICER SAID THE WEATHER WAS MORE SEVERE THAN FORECASTED AND BEGAN AFTER THE 5:00 A.M. DEADLINE TAKING THE DISTRICT BY SURPRISE. THE CONDITIONS BECAME SUCH THAT FOR A TIME PERIOD WE WERE NOT ABLE TO HAVE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR THE OPERATION OF SCHOOL.
