Flash Flood Warning for El Paso County; Severe Thunderstorm Watch all evening

your First Alert 5 weather another quick update on the severe weather moving across parts of El Paso County into Fremont County far western Pueblo County right now got a severe thunderstorm warning for Northern Colorado Springs all the way down into the downtown area until 4 o’clock this afternoon this is for hailstones up to an inch in diameter very heavy rain dangerous cloud to ground lightning as well this thing is just dumping down torrential amounts of rain we’re in a drought so we love to see that rain coming down but it’s coming down so heavy and the storm is moving so slowly we’re going to see some flooding across parts of Colorado Springs where you see the brighter Reds those the areas getting the heaviest rain right now the hail most of the hail falling on the west side of Colorado Springs we’ve also got a small stream flood advisory in an urban flood advisory active until 5:30 this afternoon for parts of the springs and stretches from Briar gate the west side around the Air Force Academy all the way down to Manitou Springs and also down into Colorado Springs the downtown area that’s where the heaviest rain has fallen so far gonna encounter some serious street flooding across Colorado Springs for at least the next hour and a half maybe up to two hours as all the drains try to handle all this very heavy rain that’s falling in a short period of time but you can see up and down the i-25 corridor from the tri-lakes area all the way through downtown Colorado Springs all the way down to Ivy wild in the Broadmoor just getting down with some very heavy rain right now this thunderstorm moving very slowly off to the northeast at about 5 to 10 miles per hour again that severe thunderstorm warning active until 4 o’clock this afternoon some of you will get hailstones up to an inch in diameter but most of you will see hail a little smaller than that this storm has been popping Colorado Springs for about the past 45 minutes now also a severe thunderstorm warning active for Fremont County until 4 o’clock this afternoon the stretches into far western Pueblo County that thing probably has hail at least an inch in diameter as well dropping down some beneficial rain and as always look out for that dangerous cloud to ground lightning my big concern right now that heavy rain falling across Colorado Springs and El Paso County let’s go out live right now Adam nabek is rolling across tell me again where he’s at he’s north on resina right now you can see no hail across that area as he drives northbound on resina but probably getting okay he’s on pro rodeo right now right by the News 5 facility in Rock remand we’re getting some decent rainfall moderate to heavy rain across parts of Rock Rim and the further west you go in Rock rim and though the intensity of the thunderstorm picks up getting some pretty good hail falling out of this storm a couple of radar sweeps through the last couple of radar sweeps we’ve seen the storm start to decrease in intensity a little bit but it’s still dropping down some very heavy rainfall right now and again most of us will see real small hail Peeta marble sized hail in the strongest part of the thunderstorm you will start to see some hailstones quite possibly up to an inch in diameter gonna move off camera here and see what’s going on they’re sending another alert out so more activity going on right now okay we’ve just seen a flash flood warning issued for El Paso County that’s going to update from that the urban and small stream flood advisory now a flash flood warning active for Colorado Springs and El Paso County let me pull up the information on this so I can give you all the information that you need with this flash flood warning northwestern El Paso County until 5:45 this afternoon thunderstorms producing very heavy rain up to an inch and a half of rain has already falling falling across parts of El Paso County so if you’re in the springs you just need to stay indoors right now stay on News five we’ll keep you updated as this is a very fluid situation right now but flash flooding will begin because of all the rain we’ve had in such a short period of time so from the springs Monument the Air Force Academy Manitou Springs Black Forest Glen Eagle Cimarron Hills all the way down into strat more flash flood warning active now until 5:45 this afternoon could see maybe up to another half an inch of rain across parts of Colorado Springs and El Paso County gonna put this into a loop here and show you the progress of the thunderstorm pushing off to the north and east at a slow rate of speed that’s why we’ve got the problems right now the steering winds aloft very light right now and with that the rain is just going to continue to pile up you can see in the last couple of runs thunderstorm decreasing in intensity just a little bit I’m not concerned about real large hail anymore Peter marble sized hail will be very common with that thunderstorm you could possibly see hailstones maybe up to an inch in diameter in the strongest part of the thunderstorm initially that thunderstorm is over far northern Colorado Springs far northern El Paso County and western Colorado Springs and now starting to build a little further down to the south you can see from downtown Colorado Springs all the way down to about Ivy wild getting some real good rain right now that’s the tail end of that thunderstorm as it lifts off to the north and east but again my big concern would be that dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning and now the flash flooding a flash flood warning will continue to be active for El Paso County northwestern El Paso County and Colorado Springs until 5:45 this afternoon the problem is all the heavy rain has fallen and all the hail starting to clog up some of the storm drains right now those storm drains just cannot handle this amount of rain in such a short period of time that’s why we’re going to see that flash flood warning active until 5:45 this afternoon going to show you some of the rainfall accumulations and I haven’t had a chance to update this yet but on inch-and-a-half very common in the strongest part of that thunderstorm those rainfall accumulations lessened just a little bit a little further down to the south but some of the thunderstorm tops this afternoon up from 43 to 4500 feet in elevation those elevations where the cold areas that’s why we’re starting to see the hail up across all parts of El Paso County also on top of that there’s a severe thunderstorm watch active until 10 o’clock tonight for virtually all of southeastern Colorado all the counties we’ve shaded in yellow they’re severe thunderstorms could pop across any of those counties between now and 10:00 p.m. all the elements really in place for severe thunderstorms to develop with a juicy atmosphere just a lot of low-level moisture in the atmosphere right now that’s really feeding those thunderstorms I’m going to show your radar right now radar really lit up right now with a lot of heavy rain across parts of El Paso County down into Fremont County Western Pueblo County as well that severe thunderstorm warning active for El Paso County and Colorado Springs until 4 o’clock this afternoon heaviest part of the rain right now stretching from about Gleneagle through the Air Force Academy all the way down through downtown Colorado Springs Rock Rim and getting some very heavy rain right now the hail anywhere from Peter marble-sized real common with that thunderstorm again here you can see it stretches all the way from the tri-lakes area through the north end of Colorado Springs all the way through downtown to about Ivy wild right now then as we move further south tracking that thunderstorm to the south of Canyon City it’s moving very slowly as well so probably going to see some of the small streams and creeks start to overflow across portions of southeastern Fremont County as well at least they’re gonna fill up there’s no doubt about that as that thunderstorm continues to move so very slowly nothing in the pueblo area yet but again you’re under the gun severe thunderstorm watch until 10 o’clock tonight nothing happening out across the far eastern plains right now but some real good shear in the atmosphere so I think places like Kiowa County u-cat could actually be under the gun for a severe thunderstorm that could actually spin up a tornado a little later this afternoon into this evening as these thunderstorms you eventually make their way further east out near the Kansas border so again we’re going to return you to programming here shortly just want to recap once again severe thunderstorm warning active until 4 o’clock this afternoon in Colorado Springs that severe thunderstorm producing hailstones the largest stones will be up to an inch in diameter but most parts of the springs will see hail a little less a little smaller than that very heavy rain coming down flash flood warning active until 5:45 this afternoon for Colorado Springs in northwestern El Paso County so stay indoors stay away from this storm you don’t want to mess with a storm this big and this strong it’s just
