Flash flood warning means evacuations for taro farmers


DASH THANKS JUSTIN, NEW AT NINE… ALL THIS RAIN IS CAUSING PROBLEMS FOR SOME FARMERS. THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKED EARLIER AS THE HANALEI RIVER SWELLED…YOU CAN BARELY SEE THE TARO PATCHES THAT SURROUND IT. DASH IN THIS AREA, HEAVY RAIN CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS. LYNDSEY HARAGUCHI- NAKAYAMA: we had to close down multiple locations i had to evacuate staff members make sure everybody is ok the ironic thing is of course taro needs a lot of water to grown then there times when we get too much water, it creates plant disease prevents photosynthesis and really affects how the taro grows and develops DASH IT MAY BE A FEW MONTHS BEFORE THE FARM WILL KNOW FOR SURE IF WHAT KIND OF IMPACT THE RAIN HAD ON THE HARVEST.
