BERN.. THE STORY IS REALLY ACROSS THE BRIDGE IN VANCEBORO… PARTS OF STREETS FERRY ROAD ARE BLOCKED OFF… THE ROAD IS FULL OF WATER AND IT CONTINUES TO RISE. CRAVEN COUNTY FIRE AND RESCUE SAYS RESIDENTS IN THIS AREA HAVE EVACUATED. THEY DID A SAFETY CHECK EARLY THIS AFTERNOON AND NO ONE WAS HOME. ONE VANCEBORO RESIDENT CAME TO SEE HOW HIGH THE WATERS WERE…SHE SAYS THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING… “THE WATER WILL COME UP FAST FROM HERE AND THIS WILL BE PROBABLY UNDERWATER WILL ALL THE WATER THAT STILL HAS TO COME DOWNSTREAM FROM GREENVILLE, KINSTON, IT’S GOING TO GET BAD FAST, SO EVERYBODY NEEDS TO BE CAREFUL.” KIRBY AND HER HUSBAND LIVED THROUGH HURRICANE FLOYD THEY SAY THE CIRCUMSTANCES ARE TOO FAMILIAR. PEOPLE GOT THROUGH THE STORM AND THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE WATERS STARTED TO RISE AS YOU HEARD…KIRBY IS ADVISING EVERYONE TO BE CAREFUL. WHEN I WAS ON STREETES FERRY ROAD EARLIER TODAY SHE TOLD ME NOT TO STAY TOO LONG BECAUSE THE WATER COULD RISE IN A MATTER OF MINUTES. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT CREWS ARE ON STANDBY IN BOTH VANCEBORO AND NEW BERN, THEY HAVE SWIFT WATER CREWS READY TO GO. LIVE IN NEW BERN ZORA STEPHENSON 9 ON YOUR SIDE.
