Floods damage Cheshire County roads

NO SURPRISE FOR PEOPLE WHO LIVE AROUND HERE THAT ROUTE 63 IS CLOSED FOR FLOODING. THEY SAY THAT HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR WHEN THEY GET HEAVY RAIN. WHAT IS SURPRISING IS THE CROSSROAD THAT INTERSECTS WITH ROUTE 63. THEY ARE SEEING A LOT OF FLOODING ON THIS ROAD AND SOME EROSION. THOSE FOLKS ARE DETOURING FROM ROUTE 63. THEY ARE NOT SURE WHERE TO GO. THAT IS AN ISSUE. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ASKING US HOW TO GET AROUND. IT IS CAUSING HEADACHES FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT FROM THE AREA. YOU CAN SEE SOME EROSION, SOME PIECES OF THE ROAD, ROCKS ACROSS THE ROAD. THIS ROAD IS OPEN. IT CONNECTS TO ANOTHER MAIN ARTERY IN TOWN. NO SURPRISE ROUTE 63 IS SHUT DOWN. IT DOES RUN PARALLEL TO THE CONNECTICUT RIVER. WE STILL HAVE RAIN HERE. PEOPLE SAY IT HAS BEEN RAINING SINCE 10:30 THIS MORNING. THEY ARE CONTINUING TO DEAL WITH IT. MIKE CRONIN JOINS US WITH THE LATEST. MIKE: TOWN WORKERS HEARD A LOUD BOOM AROUND LUNCHTIME TODAY. IT IS NOT CLEAR IF LIGHTNING STRUCK THE TOWN HALL, BUT THE BUILDING IS GOING THROUGH ELECTRICAL ISSUES. OFFICIALS SAY THEY HEARD A THUNDER STRIKE WHILE IT WAS STILL SUNNY. THE ROUTER AND MODEM ARE OUT. THE BIGGEST IMPACT IS TO THE TOWN CLERK AND TAX COLLECTOR. WITHOUT INTERNET, THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO REGISTER VEHICLES AND HAD TO CLOSE FOR THE NIGHT.
