Hundreds show up to help clean up Greenville following flood

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE SPENT THE DAY HELPING TO CLEAN-UP GREENVILLE.. FOLLOW DEVASTATING FLOODS FROM MATTHEW. A VOLUNTEER CENTER WAS SET UP AT “TROPICANA SUPERMARKET”.. WHERE VOLUNTEERS SPLIT UP INTO DIFFERENT AREAS. IN ALL.. VOLUNTEERS GOT TO NINE IMPACTED AREAS IN THE CITY. THOSE INVOLVED SAY ITS ALL ABOUT GIVING BACK TO THOSE IN NEED. “A LOT OF OUR CHURCH MEMBERS ARE OUT HERE TRYING TO CLEAN UP SOME OTHER HOUSES FIRST. I ASKED THEM IF THEY COULD PUT THEIR OWN DAMAGES ON HOLD SO WE COULD UNITE AS A GROUP.” BUTTED “WE ALL REMEMBER AFTER FLOYD IN 1999, THERE WERE AREAS IN THIS CITY THAT LOOKED LIKE TIME HAD FORGOTTEN, AND WE DIDN’T WANT THAT TO BE THE MESSAGE AFTER HURRICANE MATTHEW.” CITY LEADERS SAY OVER 800 HOMES IN GREENVILLE COULD HAVE SOME FLOOD DAMAGE. STILL.. THEY SAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE.
