I’m Not In a Flood-Zone. Do I Really Need Flood Insurance?

Hi I am Eric most of Most Insurance. We are
often asked, we hear this question all the time, “I am not in a flood zone, so do I really need flood insurance?”
Well here is the deal, everybody, I repeat everybody in the entire country is in a flood zone.
You might just be a preferred risk flood zone. Here’s the great news that means your cost is really really
really reduced. So, do you need a flood policy even though you’re in a preferred risk flood zone…..Absolutely. 38% of all flood claims nationally happen
in preferred risk flood zones. 38%! We are headquartered here in Florida and you may be as well. In Florida,
that number is significantly higher because there is not too much flooding in Las Vegas, Nevada, but there
is some. So you live in a zone that you’re not required to have flood insurance by your mortgage lender.
Should you still get it? Absolutely. For a $250,000 policy for your dwelling, the exterior of
the house, and with $100,000 worth of contents, the cost is less than $400 a year. So yes get that flood insurance
policy. Because you will be surprised by the number of claims that are made and then are not covered
because of flooding. You see, flooding is defined as all rising water. So it’s not gonna happen when
the rain is coming down, your covered. But when that water floods, when it breaks the river, breaks the
levee, and comes in, you’re not gonna have coverage if that water has raised up and has flooded your house. So go out there, get a flood insurance policy,
Hope this helps. Have a good one.

  1. Ask the folks in New England if they think they would ever have need of Flood Insurance. A lot of people without coverage to help with damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.
