Jig Fishing Big Walleye -Fishing Winnipeg River Green Backs- Jason Mitchell Outdoors

(INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>YOU KNOW, THIS FALL FISHING ISN’T FOR EVERYBODY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT GETS LATE INTO THE YEARS, YOU KNOW. PEOPLE LOOK OUT HERE AND THING MAN, PEOPLE ARE CRAZY FOR GOING OUT AND FISHING IN WEATHER LIKE THAT. BUT IF YOU WERE OUT THERE AND SAW HOW GOOD THE FISHING IS, YOU’D KNOW WHY. THIS IS A HANDY FISH HERE, ERIC. IF THERE’S A PLACE TO GO WHERE YOU HAVE A REALISTIC CHANCE OF CATCHING A 10 POUND-PLUS FISH, LAKE WINNIPEG. WINNIPEG RIVER, RED RIVER WOULD DEFINITELY COME TO THE TOP OF MOST PEOPLE’S LIST. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>I ACTUALLY SEE SOME BIG MARKS MOVING BELOW US RIGHT NOW. YOU KNOW, LAKE WINNIPEG IS ONE OF THE LARGEST LAKES IN THE WORLD AND IT’S JUST A MASSIVE BODY OF WATER. IT’S GOT A RENOWNED WALLEYE POPULATION. YOU KNOW, THIS IS ONE OF THE GREAT MIGRATIONS. EACH FALL AND EACH SPRING, MASSIVE NUMBERS OF FISH MOVE UP INTO THESE RIVERS. IN THE FALL HERE, THESE FISH ARE FOLLOWING THE SHINER RUN. IT’S JUST INCREDIBLE WHERE YOU CAN HAVE SOME TREMENDOUS FISH, BIG FISH, LOTS OF ‘EM, PACKED INTO A PRETTY SMALL AREA AND THAT’S WHAT MAKES THIS RIVER FISHING SO SPECIAL.>>SO RIGHT NOW WE’RE FISHING AT THE MOUTH OF LAKE WINNIPEG. THAT’S TRAVERSE BAY OFF TO OUR WEST OVER THERE AND EAST IS JUST THE MOUTH OF THE WINNIPEG RIVER. SO WE’RE SORT OF STATIONED ON THE EDGE OF THE CHANNEL. IT NARROWS RIGHT OVER HERE AND IT STARTS TO – OH, LOST ANOTHER ONE RIGHT THERE. THESE FISH ARE MOVING IN FROM THE LAKE BIG TIME AND THEY GOTTA COME THROUGH HERE TO GET BACK INTO THE DEEP END OF THE RIVER WHERE THEY WANNA BE. SO, WE’RE TRYING TO INTERCEPT THEM RIGHT ON THE EDGE HERE. SEE IF WE CAN’T GET A BIG ONE.>>YOU KNOW, THE WINNIPEG RIVER HERE UP ON LAKE WINNIPEG IS ONE OF THESE CLASSIC FAMOUS FALL RUNS IN CANADA HERE THAT HAS BEEN ATTRACTING A LOT OF ATTENTION. REASON BEING IS THAT, YOU KNOW, AT ANY GIVEN TIME YOU CAN CATCH THE BIGGEST FISH YOU EVER CAUGHT IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. THIS IS A GOOD FISH HERE, ERIC>>YEAH.>>WOW. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>OH, LOOK HOW STRONG THIS FISH IS. LOOK AT THIS, WHOA. WOW. OH YEAH, LOOK AT THERE. THAT’S A GREENBACK.>>THAT’S A NICE ONE, NICE WORK.>>ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU SIR.>>WE WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT MOVING AND THEN THAT’S ALL YOU GOTTA DO SOMETIMES. AND THEN THEY DECIDE TO BITE.>>THEY’RE JUST BEAUTIFUL. I JUST LOVE THAT IRIDESCENT SHINE ON THEM. THEY’RE JUST GORGEOUS. OH, THAT WATER IS COLD. OH, LOOK AT THAT. LOOK AT THAT. OH! SHE’S COMING ALIVE NOW. ISN’T THAT JUST GORGEOUS, THOUGH? LOOK AT THAT POSE. THEY ALMOST LOOK PREHISTORIC. JUST A COOL LOOKING FISH.>>YEAH, THAT LOOKS GREAT. NICE WORK, JASON.>>YEAH.>>AWESOME STUFF.>>THAT’S WHY PEOPLE COME UP HERE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>THE PROGRAM’S PRETTY SIMPLE. THIS WATER’S GOT A LOT OF COLOR TO IT. IT’S KIND OF A DINGY COLORED WATER AND YOU KNOW, YOU’RE JUST ANCHORING ON THESE LEDGES, ANCHORING ON THESE CHANNELS. YOU’RE JUST VERTICALLY JIGGING WITH SALTER SHINERS. YOU’RE JUST WAITING FOR THESE WAVES OF FISH TO PULL THROUGH AND USUALLY THERE’S JUST SO MANY FISH GOING BACK AND FORTH IN THIS RIVER SYSTEM. IT’S JUST LIKE MIGRATING GEESE, YOU KNOW. YOU’RE JUST TRYING TO GET ANCHORED IN AN AREA WHERE THEY’RE TRAVELING THROUGH AND YOU’LL SEE, YOU KNOW, THESE FISH WILL COME IN WAVES WHERE YOU’LL CATCH TWO, THREE FISH IN A ROW. YOU SIT FOR A LITTLE WHILE AND ANOTHER WAVE WILL COME THROUGH. AND YOU’LL NOTICE IT ON YOUR ELECTRONICS TOO. YOU’LL HAVE THREE OR FOUR FISH SWIM BY AND YOU CATCH A FEW AND YOU SIT THERE. IT’S JUST A VERY EFFECTIVE WAY TO FISH, SIMPLE WAY TO FISH, BUT IT’S A LOT OF FUN. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>SO THESE FAMOUS GREENBACKS ARE BRIGHT GREEN. THE THEORY IS THAT THE WATER UP IN NORTHERN BASIN’S A LOT CLEARER AND THEY COME DOWN TO SOME OF THIS MURKIER WATER, TALK ABOUT SOME OF THE LIMESTONE IN THE WATER AND STUFF LIKE THAT. THEY SORT OF, GETS THEM TO THAT BRIGHT GREEN COLOR. THE LONGER THAT THEY STAY DOWN IN THE SOUTHERN BASIN OR UP INTO THE TRIBUTARIES, THAT GREEN COLOR WILL START TO FADE. SO SOMETIMES YOU CAN SORT OF TELL HOW LONG THE FISH HAS BEEN DOWN HERE, WHETHER HE’S EARLY IN THE RUN OR FRESH FROM THE NORTH BY HOW BRIGHT THEY ARE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>GOOD FISH.>>YEP.>>BOY, THEY DON’T LIKE GETTING PEELED OFF OF THAT BOTTOM. HEAVY FISH HERE, ERIC >>THAT LOOKS GOOD, LOOKS GOOD.>>BOY, JUST LOVE HOW STRONG THEY ARE. OH, LOOK AT HERE, LOOK AT HERE.>>THAT’S A NICE ONE.>>WHOA.>>WHOA, GOT ANOTHER DECENT FISH. LOOK AT THAT.>>NICE.>>LOOK AT HOW CHUNKY THAT FISH IS, JASON.>>YEAH, LET ME GET A HOLD OF HER HERE. WOW.>>SOLID.>>THAT IS A LONG ONE. YEAH, THAT IS JUST BEAUTIFUL. THERE ARE JUST SO MANY BIG FISH UP HERE. I MEAN, YOU KNOW, YOU’LL LOOK AT HISTORICALLY ACROSS NORTH AMERICA, IF THERE’S A PLACE TO GO WHERE YOU HAVE A REALISTIC CHANCE OF CATCHING A 10 POUND-PLUS FISH, LAKE WINNIPEG. WINNIPEG RIVER, RED RIVER WOULD DEFINITELY COME TO THE TOP OF MOST PEOPLE’S LIST. YEAH, GET THAT FISH IN THE WATER. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>OH MAN, IT IS COLD. AND I THINK THE LATER IT GETS OUT HERE, THE BETTER IT GETS. IF YOU CAN STAND IT OUT HERE, THE FISHING JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER. EACH FALL, THAT WATER TEMPERATURE DROPS TO MAYBE 50 DEGREES OR SO AND THAT’S WHAT TRIGGERS THE SHINER MIGRATION. SO YOU’LL SEE ON YOUR DEPTH FINDER, SOMETIMES YOU JUST SEE THESE HUGE SCHOOLS OF BAITFISH AND ALL THESE SHINERS PULL UP IN THE RIVER. AND THIS RIVER, YOU KNOW, THE GREENBACKS AND WALLEYES, THEY FOLLOW THOSE SHINERS AND IT’LL JUST GET FULL OF FISH. WE’VE BEEN ANCHORED OUT HERE BEFORE WHERE, NOT KIDDING, IN ONE SPOT YOU CAN SIT THERE AND THERE WILL BE ALL KINDS OF CLUTTER BELOW YOU ON YOUR SCREEN, YOU’LL CATCH WHITEBASS, YOU’LL CATCH DRUM, YOU’LL CATCH WALLEYES. I MEAN, IT JUST SEEMS LIKE THERE’S THIS HUGE MIGRATION OF FISH THAT JUST KEEPS COMING THROUGH HERE EVERY YEAR. IT JUST AMAZES ME. TO ME, IT’S INCREDIBLE JUST HOW MANY FISH WILL PACK INTO THIS RIVER. JUST UNBELIEVABLE. I GOTTA WARM UP. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>WHAT DO YOU GOT?>>OH, NOT TOO BIG, NOT TOO BIG. NICE ONE, THOUGH.>>YOU KNOW WHAT, THESE ARE PERFECT EATERS. WE’RE GONNA BRING THESE INTO THE MOTEL. THEY’LL COOK ‘EM UP FOR US. WHOA. (CHUCKLES) THERE’S SO MANY PLACES IN THIS WORLD THAT’D BE A GREAT WALLEYE. UP HERE, THAT’S A BABY. BUT WE’RE GONNA EAT HIM TONIGHT. IT’S KIND OF FUN GOING SOMEWHERE WHERE IF YOU DON’T CATCH FISH, YOU DON’T EAT.>>YEAH, THEY BIT AT THE SAME TIME. (LAUGHS) AWESOME STUFF. WE’LL PUT THAT IN THE WELL, I GUESS.>>IF I CAN GET IT OPEN.>>NICE WORK.>>ALL RIGHT.>>THAT WAS GREAT. THEY THUMPED US AT THE EXACT SAME TIME.>>IT’S SO COLD, I DON’T KNOW IF I DARE TURN MY LIVEWELL ON. IT’S JUST A BLOCK OF ICE TO LAY THEM ON. (LAUGHTER) >>IT’S COLD.>>42 DEGREES. NOT TOO MANY DAYS LEFT WHERE YOU GUYS WILL BE ABLE TO GET OUT HERE, YOU KNOW IT?>>NO, I MEAN, ANY DAY OF THE WEEK, PRIME TIME FALL WEATHER, THIS WOULD BE ALL LINED UP WITH PEOPLE. THIS IS A BIT OF A COMMUNITY KIND OF LINE HERE AT THE TRAVERSE BAY. BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, WE’RE THE ONLY BOAT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN OCEAN HERE. (LAUGHS) >>PRETTY INCREDIBLE.>>MORE FISH FOR US!>>YEP.>>WE ARE CATCHING FISH. SEE IF WE CAN’T GET A BIG MAMA TO SLAM ONE OF OUR LURES. THERE’S ONE. OH, IT’S NICE ENOUGH. LOOK AT THAT FISH THERE, WOW.>>LET ME GRAB THE NET HERE. NICE WORK, ERIC >>THIS GUY SLAMMED THE PLASTIC.>>THAT’S AN OFFICIAL GREENBACK. THERE WE GO, NICE.>>LOOK AT THAT FISH. (LAUGHS) THE PLASTIC PAID OFF, FINALLY. I’VE BEEN CASTING FOR A WHILE.>>YOU KIND OF MIXED IT UP OVER THERE.>>WATCH RIGHT IN HIS GUT TOO, RIGHT IN THIS THROAT. LOOK AT THAT, HE TOOK IT NICELY. BEAUTIFUL, JUST THROWING THAT PLASTIC AROUND. NOT A LOT OF GUYS THAT WILL THROW PLASTIC OUT HERE. BUT I LOVE DOING IT.>>THAT’S A DANDY.>>NOT THE FATEST GREENBACK, BUT HE’LL FEED ALL WINTER LONG AND BE NICE AND PLUMP BY SPRING. PUT THAT BACK IN THE WATER. (SPLASH) THERE HE GOES. ALL RIGHT.>>YOU SLOW DRAGGIN’ THAT TAIL?>>I WAS, ACTUALLY. JUST CASTING IT OUT THERE, POPPING IT BACK SLOWLY. AND THEN SOON AS YOU LET IT SIT THERE FOR A COUPLE SECONDS, WHACK. THAT ONE DID, ANYWAY.>>SO THE BOTTOM STRUCTURE OUT HERE IN THE TRAVERSE BAY IS MOSTLY MUD. AND YOU GET THE ODD ROCK PILE DOWN HERE. WE’RE FISHING AN EDGE HERE WHERE IT COMES UP AT THE DEEPER WATER THERE, FISHING THE EDGE OF A CHANNEL. SOME GUYS WILL FOCUS OUT ON THESE BIG FLATS OUT HERE. YOU FOCUS ON THE ODD ROCK PILE AND GPS, WAYPOINT THEM AND YOU CAN GO FROM SPOT TO SPOT AND SEE IF THEY’RE OVER THERE.>>HERE I GOT ONE. THIS IS A GOOD ONE HERE. HERE SHE COMES.>>OH, NICE.>>OH YEAH, OH YEAH, HERE.>>AWESOME.>>THEY’RE JUST GORGEOUS. HOOKED POPPED OUT. KINDA NICE ABOUT GOING BARBLESS.>>GOT SOME NICE FISH NOW.>>YEAH.>>YEAH, YOU’LL NOTICE WITH THE BARBLESS HOOKS, THEY JUST POP OUT IN THE NET MOST OF THE TIME.>>YEAH, LOOK AT THERE. THAT IS JUST BEAUTIFUL. BEAUTIFUL WALLEYE. YEAH, THERE’S A LOT OF PLACES WHERE YOU CAN CATCH WALLEYES, BUT NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, THERE’S NOTHING QUITE LIKE THIS AS FAR AS JUST THAT UNIQUE COLORATION. ONLY PLACE IN THE WORLD I’VE EVER SEEN WHERE WALLEYES JUST GET THAT BEAUTIFUL GREEN HINT, THAT IRIDESCENT SHINE. THERE. WE’RE JUST USING A 3/4 OUNCE JIG, JUST THREADING ON THAT SALTED SHINER. IT SEEMED LIKE THAT SALT, I DON’T KNOW IF IT’S JUST THE MURKINESS OR THE WATER OR WHAT, BUT IT SEEMED LIKE THAT STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN, HANG THE JIG OVER THE SIDE OF THE BOT, JUST KIND OF PAT IT ON THE BOTTOM. I THINK THESE FROZEN SALTED SHINERS, THEY WORK BETTER THAN A LIVE SHINER. YOU CAN PROBABLY FIND THEM A LITTLE EASIER IN THIS DINGY WATER. THIS IS A GOOD FISH HERE. OH MAN, CAN’T HARDLY MOVE IT OFF THE BOTTOM.>>THAT’S ALWAYS A GOOD SIGN WHEN YOU CAN’T MOVE THE FISH.>>HERE, SHE’S STARTING TO COME.>>SACK OF POTATOES KIND OF THING.>>YES, IT IS. OH, LOOK AT THERE, LOOK AT THERE. OH. (CHUCKLES)>>NICE, NICE WORK, NICE WORK.>>NICE, NICE. WOW.>>LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT COLOR ON THIS ONE, THOUGH, I SEE.>>BOY, I JUST DON’T EVER GET TIRED OF THAT, DO YOU? NOW THERE’S A LITTLE BIT OF A WEIGHT, LITTLE THUMP AND YOU SET THAT HOOK AND YOU THINK, OH, IS THAT A SNAG? NO, IT’S NOT. (LAUGHS) SNAG STARTS TO MOVE A LITTLE BIT ON YOU, OH MAN. LOOK AT THIS FISH, JUST A GORGEOUS WALLEYE. THERE, LOOK AT THAT. THAT’S WHY PEOPLE COME HERE, THAT’S WHY WE’RE HERE. NICE FISH. WE’LL GET THAT FISH IN THE WATER RIGHT AWAY HERE. WHOA! (CHUCKLES) YOU KNOW, A LOT OF TIMES, YOU’RE JUST LOOKING FOR, YOU KNOW, THIS CLASSIC STRUCTURE. YOU’RE JUST LOOKING FOR A CONTOUR, JUST SOME TYPE OF A BREAKLINE, CHANNEL EDGE, YOU KNOW, THOSE FISH FOLLOW. AND YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO IMAGINE IT BEING LIKE A MIGRATION ROUTE TO WHERE THESE FISH ARE COMING OUT OF THE LAKE AND THEY’RE COMING UP THROUGH THIS BAY AND THEY’RE MOVING UP THROUGH THE RIVER AND THEY’RE JUST FOLLOWING THESE ROUTES. AND THAT’S BASICALLY WHAT YOU’RE DOING. THESE FISH, THEY’RE NOT SWIMMING RIGHT UP THE MIDDLE OF THE CHANNEL, THEY’RE FOLLOWING THAT CONTOUR, THAT BREAKLINE. AND YOU’RE JUST ANCHORED DOWN AND THOSE WAVES OF FISH ARE PASSING UNDERNEATH YOU. AND IT’S JUST A SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE WAY TO FISH. WHEN YOU HAVE THIS MANY FISHI COMING INTO THE SYSTEM, I DON’T KNOW IF ANYTHING WORKS BETTER THAN JUST ANCHORING ON THESE KEY LOCATIONS AND JUST LETTING WAVES OF WALLEYES SWIM UNDERNEATH YOU.>>I MIGHT HAVE TO GO TO THE BACK FOR THIS ONE.>>BOY, THIS FISH IS STRONG. JUST LOOK AT THOSE BIG HEAD SHAKES. ALL RIGHT.>>JUMP AROUND FOR THIS ONE.>>HERE WE GO. JUST SQUEEZE IN THERE. BOY, ERIC, THIS IS A HEAVY FISH.>>NEVER GETS OLD, EH, JASON?>>NO, IT DON’T. I COULD NEVER GET TIRED OF THIS. LOOK AT THAT. CAN’T EVEN SEE THIS FISH YET. OH YEAH, LOOK AT THERE. (LAUGHTER) >>NICE WORK, NICE WORK!>>THAT IS WHAT WE’RE HERE FOR THAT IS A BEAUTY RIGHT THERE. YOU KNOW, WHEN THEY GOT TEETH LIKE A DOG, LOOK AT THAT. LOOK AT THE JAWS ON THAT. THERE.>>AWESOME STUFF.>>OH MAN.>>BEAUTIFUL FISH!>>OH MAN, I JUST TRIED TO SEND A TEXT TO MY WIFE AND MY FINGERS DON’T EVEN WORK. I CAN HARDLY EVEN – BUT IT’S WORTH IT. YOU’RE OUT HERE THINKING, YOU KNOW, YOU LOOK OUT ACROSS THE LAKE AND THINK, MAN, DO I REALLY WANT TO GO OUT THERE TODAY? AND WHEN YOU GET OUT THERE, YES, I DO. (LAUGHS) THAT’S JUST GOOD LIVING. LOOK AT THAT. (SPLASH) OH! THERE SHE GOES, WOW. (EXHALES) OH MAN. I GOT BASE LAYERS ON, I GOT ICE ARMOUR ON, I’VE BEEN FISHING WITH MITTENS ON AND JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE, TRY TO STAY WARM. BUT MAN, THIS IS JUST INCREDIBLE. YOU KNOW, YOU LOOK AT HOW MANY PLACES WHERE YOU CAN CATCH JUST THAT QUALITY OF FISH AND CATCH THAT MANY OF THEM IN A DAY, THIS IS GOOD FISHING UP HERE, THAT’S FOR SURE. UNBELIEVABLE.>>OH YEAH, JASON. WE’RE ONLY GETTING STARTED HERE. THIS IS JUST A TASTE, BUT WE’VE GOT A HANDFUL OF HOURS LET TO GO HERE TO CATCH SOME MORE BIG ONES. (LAUGHS) (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>(SHUDDERS) GOT TO THAW OUT.>>IT’LL BE QUIETER HERE FOR SURE. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>WE JUST MADE A MOVE AND WE MOVED WAY UP UNDERNEATH THESE RAPIDS HERE WHERE THERE’S A LITTLE BIT OF A FUNNEL AREA WHERE THE RIVER HERE’S A LITTLE BIT MORE CONSTRICTED. OH, THERE’S A GOOD FISH. THAT’S A GOOD ONE HERE.>>YEAH, WE’VE SEEN THAT ROD BEND OVER.>>OH, LOOK AT THERE, LOOK AT HERE. (LAUGHS) WOW!>>THAT WAS ALL OF A FEW MINUTES IN THIS SPOT.>>THERE. LOOK AT THAT.>>GORGEOUS.>>BOY, ISN’T THAT GORGEOUS? (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>OH, GET THAT JIG OUT OF THERE. THERE, THERE. BEAUTIFUL FISH, BEAUTIFUL FISH. WE’LL GET THAT FISH IN THE WATER HERE RIGHT AWAY. WE JUST MADE A LITTLE BIT OF A MOVE. WE JUST MOVED UP RIVER HERE BELOW THESE RAPIDS. BUT YOU KNOW, WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS EARLIER, YOU KNOW, WHEN IT COMES TO RIVERS, YOU CAN’T FISH MEMORIES. THESE FISH ARE MOVING, THEY’RE MOVING IN AND OUT OF THE RIVER, YOU KNOW, AND IT’S ALMOST LIKE A TIDE ON AN OCEAN. YOU JUST GOTTA KEEP BOUNCING AROUND AND YOU KNOW, JUST KEEP TRYING DIFFERENT SPOTS, TRYING DIFFERENT DEPTHS UNTIL YOU START GETTING WARM, UNTIL THE FISH MEET YOU HALFWAY. AND THAT’S WHAT WE’RE DOING, WE’RE JUST BOUNCING AROUND. YOU KNOW, SOME SPOTS WE ANCHOR AND WE CATCH A HANDFUL, THEN WE MAKE A SMALL MOVE AND WE MAYBE SIT FOR 20 MINUTES AND DON’T CATCH NOTHING. AND YOU KNOW, WHERE YOU CAUGHT THEM YESTERDAY DOESN’T REALLY MATTER BECAUSE TODAY’S A NEW DAY. AND THAT’S WHAT I CAN’T STRESS ENOUGH ABOUT FISHING A RIVER.>>IF IT SLOWS DOWN, DON’T BE AFRAID TO PICK UP AND MOVE TO A DIFFERENT SPOT. YOU CAN SIT THERE ON ONE SPOT ALL DAY TOO AND THEY MIGHT SWING UNDER YOU AS WELL. YOU KNOW, TO EACH THEIR OWN. BUT IT PAID OFF IN THIS SITUATION. WE JUST GO THERE, ANCHOR HASN’T SET YET AND BANG, THERE’S ANOTHER NICE GREENBACK ON. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>THERE’S ONE.>>HERE WE GO.>>DOUBLE HEADER.>>HEH, HEH. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>THERE’S A WHOLE MIX OF SIZES IN HERE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO GET. ONES LIKE THIS OR…>>YOU KNOW, I KIND OF ENJOY THAT IN THE SENSE THAT THERE’S NOT THAT MANY PLACES I CAN THINK OF, YOU KNOW, WHERE YOU CAN FISH AND FISH FOR BIG FISH BUT STILL CATCH OVER 50 FISH A DAY. YOU KNOW, IT JUST KEEPS THE HEART BEATING. (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC) >>HERE’S A BETTER FISH HERE, ERIC >>OKAY.>>OH YEAH.>>LET ME GET OVER THERE WITH THE NET.>>ONCE I TRY TO LIFT HIM OFF OF THE BOTTOM, HE STARTED TO FEEL A LOT BIGGER THAN THAT.>>OH YEAH, THAT IS A NICE ONE.>>WOW! BIG OL’ TAILS CAN…>>BIG HEAD SHAKES, HUH?>>MOVE SOME WATER, YEAH. WOW. (CHUCKLES) (INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)>>HAVEN’T SEEN HIM YET. OH, THERE’S A BIT OF A SILHOUETTE.>>OH WOW.>>DECENT SIZE FISH! YEAH.>>YES!>>WELL DONE.>>THIS IS COOL.>>SHOULD POP OUT, JUST LIKE THAT.>>THAT’S A DANDY THERE.>>THAT’S AWESOME STUFF.>>THERE’S PLACES WHERE YOU WON’T EVEN CATCH A FISH LIKE THAT IN A YEAR, YOU KNOW, AND LOOK HOW MANY OF THEM WE’VE CAUGHT TODAY. UNBELIEVABLE. OHH! MAN. UNBELIEVABLE, UNBELIEVABLE HOW YOU KNOW, WE’VE GONE ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT SPOTS TODAY. I DON’T KNOW IF WE’VE ANCHORED ANYWHERE WHERE WE DIDN’T CATCH FISH. THAT’S WHAT’S SO AMAZING ABOUT THIS IS THAT YOU COULD, ANY OF THESE RIDGELINES, ANY OF THESE CONTOURS, YOU’RE GONNA CATCH SOMETHING. OBVIOUSLY, YOU GOTTA MOVE AROUND, TRY TO FIND THESE BIGGER FISH, BUT THE AMOUNT OF FISH THAT PILE UP IN THIS RIVER IN THE FALL IS JUST UNBELIEVABLE. DEFINITELY SOMETHING TO CHECK OUT. IT’S NOT THAT FAR. I THINK A LOT OF YOU WILL BE SURPRISED WHAT KIND OF FISHING IS AVAILABLE TO ANGLERS JUST ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BORDER.

  1. I am definitely going to need to add some river time back into my fishing videos for my Youtube channel! Thanks for the reminder Jason and that looked like one heck of a day on the water!

  2. This shit is boring ya you might have your name out thier but like I said your stuff is boring.

  3. Thanks Jason for always showing how you're fishing, rigging, etc. I watch your shows with the kids and we all learn how to fish better and find new things to try. It's kind of like class is in session, and we've learned a lot!

  4. You always say such wonderful things about Manitoba when you come up here to fish.

  5. I live about an hour from pine falls and love to fish there but i have not had one calm water day every time ive gone. How do you get so lucky? lol
    Nice vid, love those greenbacks

  6. Awesome episode guys! Really showcased the fantastic 'greenback' fishing we have on the Winnipeg River. Open water fishing in Manitoba in November = hard core

  7. Make sure to leave a comment. Let us know what you want to see in upcoming videos. Remember to comment!

  8. Given the amount of sewage dumped into Lake Winnipeg, do the fish have a poop taste to them?
