On the weekend we got taken to a dam to the
nearby Llyn Brianne Dam for a visit and it was really really cool, they talked through
how it was built and we learnt all about that, and we got to go around different areas of the site and consider different impacts it had had on the area. To start we split into
two groups and then some of us went off looking at what an engineer would do at a dam, so
taking measurements over really long distances. You use a tripod and you use a total station
and then the levelling kit, and then you do the same thing at the dam but you use much
more advanced equipment and it’s just interesting to see how what you do in the first week can
be used anywhere, such as a dam.
