Lamprey at Cape Horn Dam on the Eel River

Hi there, I’m Scott Harris with the
Department of Fish and Wildlife of California. And today we are at the Van Arsdale Fisheries Station, and behind me is the Cape Horn Dam. This is on the upper Eel River. Behind me, which you can see is the main gate
of Cape Horn Dam. Just below it, you can see Pacific lampreys
trying to ascend the dam. In a few days, we will have water coming over
the dam and these lamprey will then be able to descend completely over the dam. But for now they’re a little stuck.
