I was in Austin and driving around the night of the Memorial Day flood in 1981 I think it was. There were auto dealerships that had cars washed down into the Colorado and Austin was a mess for months along the river. That is the reason there are for more dams north of Mansfield dam. There are bluffs along the Colorado river 60 to 80 feet high. The dams were the result of floods in the 1920's
