River flood warning continues in Clayton and Smithfield


THE GUNSHOT — THE VEHICLE. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CONTACT CRIME STOPPERS. RIVER FLOOD WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE NEUSE RIVER IN CLAYTON AND SMITHFIELD. WE ARE LIVE FROM THE CLAYTON GREENWAY. WHAT IS IT LIKE OUT THERE? REPORTER: THIS TRAIL GOES BACK SEVERAL MILES. AS YOU CAN SEE, IT IS NOT EXACTLY WALKABLE RIGHT NOW. UNLESS YOU HAVE ON THE RIGHT KIND OF SHOES. I AM DOING OKAY IN THESE NOW. I WOULD SAY THE WATER IS A LITTLE ABOVE MY ANKLES. AFTER SOME OF THE HEAVY RAIN WE SAW THROUGHOUT MUCH OF THE STATE TWO WEEKS AGO, THE LEVELS WERE GETTING BACK TO NORMAL. ON FRIDAY, THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ISSUED A NEW FLOOD WARNING FOR THE RIVER IN CLAYTON. THE REASON IT IS RISING BECAUSE OF WATER BEING RELEASED FROM THE DAM IN RALEIGH. MANY PEOPLE HOPING TO WALK THE TRAILS COULD NOT DO IT TODAY. I DID NOT KNOW THE RIVER RISES QUITE THAT MUCH. I DID NOT BRING MY SWIMMING GEAR WITH ME. I’M DISAPPOINTED. I HOPE IT GOES DOWN QUICKLY. I DID NOT KNOW IT WOULD BLOCK BOTH SIDES OF THE PATHWAY. THE WATER WAS HIGH. REPORTER: AS YOU CAN SEE, WE HAVE GOT A PRETTY GOOD AMOUNT OF WATER HERE. SO THE CLAYTON GREENWAY COULD BE FLOODED UNTIL SOMETIME NEXT
