Tsunami Advisory In Effect For Hawai’i

NOT A LOT OF WORRY OUT HERE ON THE STREETS. EVERYBODY FEELING PRETTY GOOD RIGHT NOW. LET’S GO OVER TO THE WEATHER CENTER. THIS IS NOT HAWAII’S FIRST RUN-IN WITH EARTHQUAKES OFF OF CHILE. THAT IS RIGHT. WE GO BACK TO 1960, MAY 23, WHEN 61 PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN HILO. WAVES AS HIGH AS 35 FEET WERE REPORTED. WE ALSO HAVE REPORTS FROM 2010. SOME MAY REMEMBER THAT IN RECENT YEARS. A DEADLY EARTHQUAKE IN CHILE WAS REPORTEDLY 525 PEOPLE WERE KILLED IN CHILE. WE DID HAVE REPORTS OF TSUNAMI WAVES IN HAWAII, BUT NO MAJOR DAMAGE. LET’S GO BACK TO OUR WEATHER MAP TONIGHT. THE SCENE ON THE ADVISORY — THE TSUNAMI ADVISORY IS AN INDICATION THAT NO MAJOR WAVES ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE IN. THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT WATERS ARE SAFE. ESPECIALLY AROUND DAYS AND HARBORS — BAYS AND HARBORS. HONOLULU BAY WILL BE CLOSED TOMORROW. IT WILL ACT LIKE A PING-PONG, BOUNCING OFF OF THESE BAYS AND AT LAST THROUGH A GOOD PART OF THE DAY TOMORROW, MAYBE A COUPLE OF DAYS. WE WILL HAVE TO GET THE ALL CLEAR. THE 8.4 MAGNITUDE QUAKE STRUCK OFF OF CENTRAL CHILE JUST BEFORE ONE THIS AFTERNOON HAWAII TIME. THIS WAS ABOUT 140 MILES NORTH OF THE CAPITAL. TYPICALLY, IT TAKES ABOUT 14 OR 15 HOURS FOR A TUNE WAVE TO ARRIVE HERE IN HAWAII. THE FIRST WAVE IS EXPECTED AS EARLY AS 3:11 IN THE MORNING. A TSUNAMI WARNING WAS ISSUED ABOUT 1.5 HOURS AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE WAS STRUCK OFF OF CHILE. MUCH OF THAT COAST UNDER RACING
