UK weather alert: Tropical Storm Sebastien to smash Britain – travel chaos warning – News 247


 Tropical Storm Sebastien has sparked travel chaos warnings ahead of its expected landfall on Tuesday The storm system is heading directly for the UK, after the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) confirmed it had suddenly intensified in strength The Atlantic’s 18th named storm of 2019, which formed last week, had initially been predicted to weaken quite quickly  However, it has undergone a sudden strenghtening in force, leading to official Met Office weather warnings  Even scientists the NHC were left baffled by the surprise storm strength. The Met Office has warned that flood-ravaged areas could face yet more heavy rain over the next five days as Sebastien bares down on the country  The powerful tropical storm is expected lash the coast of Southern England by Tuesday night   By Wednesday, Sebastien will have unleashed 60mph winds across the country. The winds could even trigger devastating six metre-high waves along the southern coast  Sky News weather presenter Isobel Lang said: “More rain is forecast this week with the focus across southern and northeastern parts of the UK for the heaviest totals at this stage  “The remnants of tropical storm Sebastien will raise concerns too. This storm formed in the tropical Atlantic last Tuesday and had since meandered around looking rather uneventful  “However, it is now moving northeastwards at more of a pace and its remnants look set to affect us in some way by midweek  “The remnants of this tropical storm are likely to bring outbreaks of heavy rain and coastal gales, coinciding with some high spring tides across much of the UK through Tuesday and Wednesday and the Met Office has weather warnings in force in anticipation ” The Met Office has warned that by midweek, the East Midlands and South Yorkshire should expect another deluge    Trending  Seven flood warnings are in place across England and Wales along with 60 less severe flood alerts  Metereologist Marko Korosec remarked that Sebastien “was one of the trickiest storms to forecast this year”  Met Office weather forecaster Alex Burkill said: “Across the next five days we have got warnings for each day  “On Wednesday it’s covering that area of Yorkshire and Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, that area which saw the severe flooding  “At the moment, the rainfall is not expected to be particularly heavy for the time of year, but we are expecting it to be significant  “There are likely to be some impacts.” Following its impact in the UK, Sebastian is forecast to crash into France by Wednesday
