VIDEO: Livecopter 3 gives an aerial tour of the Oroville Dam

LIVECOPTER3 GOT A SOME GREAT SHOTS OF THE SPILLWAY TODAY. EDIE: KCRA 3’S BRIAN HEAP JOINS US NOW WITH THE INCREDIBLE IMAGES. BRIAN: WATER MANAGERS SAY THEY KNEW RELEASING WATER TROUGH THE SPILLWAY WOULD CAUSE MORE DAMAGE. AND TODAY, WE GOT A LOOK AT JUST HOW EXTENSIVE THAT DAMAGE HAS BECOME. WE ALSO GOT A LOOK AT HOW FULL LAKE OROVILLE IS TONIGHT. AND HOW CLOSE IT IS FROM GOING OVER THE EMERGENCY SPILLWA AS THE RESERVOIR CONTINUES TO FILL UP AND GET CLOSER TO FULL CAPACITY, THE WATER IS JUST FEET FROM THE EDGE OF THE EMERGENCY SPILLWAY, WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN USED. RIGHT NOW, WATER IS BEING RELEASED FROM THE DAMAGED SPILLWAY SO FAST, YOU COULD FILL AN OLYMPIC SIZE SWIMMING POOL EVERY TWO SECONDS. AS THE WATER FLOWS DOWN THE SPILLWAY, YOU CAN SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT HITS THE 200 FOOT LONG, 30 FOOT DEEP CRATER. IT STARTS GOING EVERYWHERE. SIGNIFICANT EROSION TO THE SPILLWAY ON BOTH SIDES AS THE WATER IS RAGING DOWN. SO MUCH, IT HAS FORMED A SECONDARY CHANNEL. OFFICIALS ARE HOPEFUL THE EMERGENCY SPILLWAY WILL NOT BE USED, THAT WE HAVE SEEN CREWS REMOVING TREES FROM THE AREA BELOW JUST IN CASE, TO KEEP THE WATER FROM WASHING TO MUCH DEBRIS DOWN INTO THE FEATHER RIVER. WE HAVE SEEN CREWS POURING CONCRETE TO TRY AND REINFORCE AT THE BASE OF THE SPILLWAY. WE ALSO SHOW THE MUDDY RIVER BACKED UP AT THE BASE OF OROVILLE DAM AS IT WINDS ITS WAY TOWARD DOWNTOWN OROVILLE. THE DEPARTMENT OF WATER RESOURCES WANTS TO ASSURE PEOPLE LIVING DOWNSTREAM THAT THE DAM

  1. This is not good at all ๐Ÿ™ We love camping there too ๐Ÿ™ I know we need the rain but enough is enough ๐Ÿ™ KCRA3 RULES!!!!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!!!

  2. Living below a dam like that is just bad feng shui…Go up to the mountain good people until the rain stops.

  3. KCRA should get a Drone to take news photos and movies. It's cheaper, safer and better quality.

  4. I agree. The dam is NOT safe. They said the same to the Teton Dam and it collapsed.

  5. California Radical Liberals. "The dam right now is safe, until it's not safe". "If you like your dam, you can keep your dam". "You have to pass the spillway bill, so you can see what's in the spillway".

  6. if I lived within the spillway and Feather river area, I would take my belongings to higher ground. it's pretty obvious there's going to be a catastrophic failure, I wouldn't wait for the Authorities to tell me to leave. by then it's too late. but Nature Culls, any way it can.

  7. โ€‹#OrovilleDam FAA issue temporary flight restriction over Spillway incident.https://twitter.com/JmeDubya/status/8...

  8. Where's the Union Pacific when ye need 'em? There should be three miles of glasslined unit tanker at the tracks' closest approach to the reservoir – all that excess water is critically needed underground, the whole length of the Central Valley, to overstuff empty aquifers and reverse the collapsing!
