Growing up West River on the family ranch in Burke, all I wanted to be was a rodeo champion. And I was on my way. I had my life all planned out. Then Ruby, the horse I drew, had a bad day. And so did I. Here’s where my story really starts. My faith, neighbors, family, and the love of my life, they were all there for me. I can’t walk today, but thanks to them, I can still ride. I’ll always be a rodeo man, but today, my family, community, and South Dakota come first. I used to live one day at a time. Now I help families save for their retirement and represent my community in the state Senate to protect our way of life for the next generation I’m Billie Sutton, and life taught me we can go a lot further, if we ride together.
